Michino Phedra Clutch: All It Takes is One

Michino Phedra Clutch

You might not have heard of this brand – that’s perfectly fine; as far as I’m concerned, this bag is the first of theirs worthy of any attention – but take notice. A gently priced snakeskin bag, albeit one of watersnake realized with great styling, is always on-trend, no matter what you’re wearing.

Designer Yasu Michino is Tokyo-raised and Paris-based (he’s worked at Saint Laurent, Givenchy, and Delvaux), and sure, I see the East-meets-West aesthetic. But I’m really more swayed by the practicality of this exotic that goes for under a thousand dollars. This multi-functioning clutch-to-shoulder bag has all your comforts on hand: a zippered back pocket, internal pocket large enough to house an iPhone 6+ (it’s been so tough to find a bag that accommodates!), and of course, a detachable shoulder strap. Don’t be swayed: the tab is purely decorative. The closure is your classic flap-front with magnetic snap, and it punctuates the bag with a strength in character that stood out to me immediately. I love both colors; they serve completely different purposes. The marigold yellowicon is uplifting, but these days, I’m in love with grayicon. It’s the lighter shade for all seasons. At Barneys New York for $895.

Wear with: If you’re still questioning the white-past-Labor Day rule, get over it. Cushnie et Ochs’ stretch-jersey pencil skirt will look fresh as you strut into fall. On NET-A-PORTERicon for $795.
